How to hike from Choquequirao to Machu Picchu?
Choquequirao Trek is something that adventurous people love to do but it is not that easy. A person should have a lot of patience and capabilities to stay active while trekking. So, if you are going for the Choquequirao Machi Picchu hike then you should know that it is 100 km long.
There is a high altitude range of 2900 meters with 4668 meters to the highest peak. So, your trekking will begin from the town named Cachora, which is just outside the Apurimac Valley. You can come to this place from Cucao by taxi. Let us know the complete overview of what you can do on this trek.
Day 1
The trail will begin from Cachora, which leads down to the Apurimac Canyon. If you want to save some time then you can take a taxi to CapuliyocMirador, which will reduce the tot distance by 13 km. So, you can reduce the time from the start of the trek and the expected movement should be five to seven hours for the whole day.
You can stop your first day at Chiquiska, before the bridge or can go through quieter Santa Rosa. Well, if you are crossing the bridge then the next day will be a bit easier for you.
Day 2
The next day will be the toughest for you where you need to cover a 13 km steep ascent with different types of hassles. You need to be very careful about the mosquitoes after sunset and that’s why you should wear long clothes for protection.
After having some hassles, you will reach the top of the peak where you can drag your flag. Now, this is the time when you can enjoy your time by exploring different views and can enjoy beer. Still, if you have some energy left then you can play football with the locals there out.
Day 3
On Day 3, you need to wake up early in the morning and then wander in the ruins. Now if you want to end up your journey then just turn back or else continue your steps forward. Then you will reach the steep descent to Rio Blanco.
After moving forward, you can spend some time swimming before tackling down through the ascent and it will take you to the Maizal.
Day 4
Now your next step will be to climb the Victoria Mines to 4200 meters where you will be able to see some of the original paved Inca Road. After reaching the Abra San Juan Pass, there will be a long descent to Yanama. This is the place where you need to start camping.
In that camping, you can enjoy some amazing moments by enjoying the bonfire. But you need to make sure to have an early sleep so that you can start your next day's ride quickly without any restlessness feeling.
Day 5
To reach the Yanama Pass, you need to cover a huge distance. The route will go through the Queliqua Valley by going for a light day of trekking till you reach the Yanama Pass, which is the highest peak in the place. The slight descent will leave you in Totora where you can spend the night.
This day will also be very tough for you where you need to cover the distance by trekking for at least 8 hours. After covering this distance, you will be very close to the final destination.
Day 6
The next day, there will be a long winding descent that will take you to the Totora river, which is 2000 meters below the village. Later on, the slight ascent will take you to the village of La Playa at 2400 meters.
In that village, you can spend some amazing moments and can spend the whole night there. At this place, you will also find some shops to restock things and enjoy hot springs to relax your tired legs so that you can get ready for the next day.
Day 7
The next day, you can go with some transport to Lucuma or can continue to the Trek. If you are tired then go with some transport because, at Lucuma, there is an ascent climb for at least three hours to discover the new ruins of Llacpacta. So this is the place from where you can access some amazing glimpses of Machu Picchu. Then descending to Hydroelectric will be the next step where the train departs from AguasCalientes and will take one hour.
Day 8
The next day, you need to wake up early to reach Machu Picchu gates. Now it depends on you whether you want to go on some tours or legs if you have that much strong. Just spend the whole day in ruins and get your train to Cusco directly. Make sure that you have booked the train in advance and can end up at ChoquequiraoTrek by reaching your place.
